Kingston, 29 January 2026. The Cuban community residing in Jamaica took centre stage on 27 and 28 January at events organised to celebrate dates and historical figures of great significance to our country, Latin America and the Caribbean.
On the afternoon of the 27th, they gathered at the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica to commemorate the 173rd anniversary of the birth of our National Hero José Martí. Faithful to their Latin Americanist and anti-imperialist ideals, they paid tribute to the 32 Cuban heroes and Venezuelan combatants who fell in defence of the sovereignty of the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. They also reaffirmed their condemnation of the new imperialist attack against the largest of the Antilles.
On the morning of the 28th, Cuban teachers and students from the José Martí Technical High School joined in the tribute to the Apostle, placing a floral offering before the bust that guards the entrance to this educational centre donated by the Cuban people to the brotherly Jamaican people.
In the afternoon of the same day, more than twenty of our compatriots participated in the panel ‘Africa, Cuba and the Caribbean: more than a century of cooperation’. At the event, Osvaldo Cárdenas, president of the Association of Cubans Resident in Jamaica, highlighted the solidarity and altruism of the Cuban Revolution, faithful to the legacy of our Commander-in-Chief despite the limitations imposed by the genocidal policy of the blockade.
Thus begins the year 2026 for our community, committed to our homeland's history and reaffirming our willingness to continue working together for Cuba.
