Palmerston North, March 5, 2016. The Festival of Cultures, organized every year by Palmerston North city, New Zealand, had for the first time a Cuban stall, accompanied with good music, food and a lot of happiness; something that did not go unnoticed by all the audience.
Cubans living in this city, did not hesitate for a moment of the opportunity that this festival was bringing, and they showed to all the residents of this welcoming town, the diversity and cultural wealth of their country of origin, Cuba.
There were also displayed images of the Greater Antilles, which were the subject of attention by all visitors, while they were being delighted by Cuban culinary arts such as pork sandwiches, fried sweet plantains and refreshing mojitos.
There was also the presence of those Kiwis who showed their skills and dexterity in Cuban dances, unable to resist the infectious beat of Cuban music.
Mr. Paddy Clifford, Executive Director of this City Council, visited the Cuban stall, being accompanied by Mr. Nestor Torres, First Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba in New Zealand.
Palmerston North is located on the North Island of New Zealand and has an estimated population of 83,500 inhabitants, and more than a 17% of its population are of foreign origin.
In this city, it is found Massey University headquarters, where several young Cubans have been enrolled to study master and doctoral courses.
This festival turned out to be a favorable space for rapprochement and cultural exchange among all ethnic groups, which showed that the cultural interest of New Zealand to other cultures is growing more and more.
