Vientiane, Mar 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's progress in empowering women as agents of change and in eliminating the scourges that plague them, were highlighted here today by professors from the Lao National University.
In a meeting with the Cuban ambassador in Laos, Enna Viant, on the occasion of International Women's Day, professors from the Spanish department of that institution pointed out that overcoming gender discrimination in all its expression is a fully achievable goal. if accompanied by the necessary political will.
Today, they said, is a day of recognition for women, who with their struggle and effort over the years have made it possible for us to now live in a freer and more egalitarian society.
The teachers recalled some considerations expressed by the Cuban National Hero, José Martí, about women who have a special significance and validity.
In a work published in the newspaper Patria on April 29, 1893, when summarizing the importance that he attributed to the female presence in any human work, Martí pointed out that nothing lasts without the grace of women, who instinctively discerns the truth and the precedes, they said.
Later on, the pro-independence hero explained that without his smile there is no complete glory of man, before emphasizing that the campaigns of the peoples are only weak when the woman's heart is not enlisted in them, but when she encourages, applauds and anoints the work with the honey of her affection, it is invincible.
On the occasion of the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Cuban diplomatic mission here, the ambassador also received a bouquet of flowers and a warm congratulation sent by the president of the Lao People's Supreme Court, Viengthong Siphandone.
