On Wednesday, Cuba's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, expressed his gratitude to the President of the UN General Assembly, His Excellency Mr. Philemon Yang, for his firm commitment to defending multilateralism and the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, in an international context that demands greater cooperation and solidarity in the face of unilateralism.
During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat updated the President of the General Assembly on the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, the effects of Cuba's unjustified inclusion on the unilateral list of alleged states sponsors of terrorism, and the smear campaign launched by the U.S. government with the aim of hindering the island's international medical cooperation.
Both parties agreed on the importance of strengthening the multilateral system in the face of unilateral actions that threaten peace and sustainable development. Cuba's commitment to international cooperation, particularly in the areas of health and education, was also recognized.
The Cuban representative reiterated his country's willingness to continue contributing, in the spirit of solidarity, to efforts to strengthen and develop health services, save lives, and increase the well-being of peoples.
