Harare, June 14, 2025 – Cuba celebrated a day of humanity in Zimbabwe by sharing feelings and playing with children at the Jairos Jiri Children Center, for children with disabilities, in commemoration of the birthday of the doctor and Commander Ernesto Che Guevara. Led by the Ambassador, Her Excellency Ms. Susellys Pérez Mesa, members of the Mission's staff and of the Medical Brigade in this African nation arrived at the institution to offer the children love and symbolic gestures toward children with special needs, in keeping with the essence of the Revolution: sharing what one has. Children's music by the renowned group La Colmenita punctuated the humanitarian effort with the distribution of toys, medicines, and other necessary items. The Cuban presence sparked joy by encouraging dances and games, reflected in the smiles of the children who joined the celebration. Balls and other initiatives served to motivate the children to overcome difficulties and practice sports such as soccer, share manual games, and even try to communicate in Spanish with the Cubans. The island's doctors also offered specialized consultations to several of the children at the Center located on the outskirts of Harare, while electromedics provided assistance by repairing several wheelchairs necessary for the children's daily lives. Directors of the Jairos Jiri Children Center expressed their gratitude for the Cubans' gesture toward the institution, and in particular, toward the disabled children. They said they would look forward to future visits like this Saturday's.
