Amsterdam, October 24, 2025. Drs. Mariuska Forteza Sáez and María del Carmen Llantá Abreu represented Cuba at the Congress of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP 2025), which took place in the Dutch capital from October 20 to 23.
The Cuban doctors, who work at the National Institute of Oncology and Radiology (INOR), presented the results of research conducted by a team of doctors and scientists from the Institute, under the title "Development of Pediatric Palliative Care in Cuba."
The presentation highlighted that there is, on average, one pediatric oncologist for every 12 patients, and that the National Cancer Control Program includes a pediatric segment, with a defined organizational and financial framework. It was mentioned that 13 studies on palliative care have been published, 61% of which have been published in specialized international journals.
The Congress brought together specialists from more than 120 nations, who experienced four exceptional days of cutting-edge science, engaging debates, and exchanges with world-renowned experts.
