Harare, August 2, 2024- In the presence of more than 500 students; his relatives, officials of the Presidency and the Cabinet, the media and the ambassadors of Cuba, Serbia, Russia, India, Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia, the historical support of our Government was recognized by offering scholarships to young Zimbabweans, even in difficult times due to the difficult economic situation imposed by the blockade.
In his speech, Mr. Zvinechimwe Churu, Deputy Head of the Office of the President and Cabinet responsible for Finance, Administration and Human Resources, said human capital development was critical to achieving the 2030 vision of an empowered upper-middle-income society. He added that “Cuba has been training Zimbabweans for a long time, especially doctors, since the time of the liberation struggle. Despite suffering the cruellest sanctions, Cuba still allocates funds to finance the education of Zimbabweans”.
The Cuban Chargé d'Affaires in Zimbabwe, Yenielys Regueiferos Linares, denounced the sanctions to which both nations are subject. She condemned the blockade against Cuba that has affected the Island for more than 60 years and the inclusion of Cuba on the list of State sponsors of terrorism. She added that Zimbabwe can always count on Cuba's unconditional solidarity.
