Harare, October 29, 2025 – Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassadors accredited to Zimbabwe, and friends of Cuba gathered today at the diplomatic headquarters of the Caribbean nation to witness the latest triumph of reason and justice in the United Nations vote against the US blockade.
The resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed by the United States against Cuba" received overwhelming support from the international community, with 165 votes in favor, 12 abstentions, and seven against, prompting those present to celebrate this victory for the thirty-third time.
Ambassador Susellys Pérez Mesa thanked the attendees, who, she said, were witnessing once again this vote in the UN General Assembly, which reflects the isolation of the superpower and its policy of hostility.
Members of the Cuban mission and its Medical Brigade in Zimbabwe, along with members of the solidarity movement and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, joined the celebration, which was also attended by heads of missions and representatives from Russia, China, Palestine, Iran, Serbia, Belarus, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Nicaragua, Botswana, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.
They paid close attention to the masterful speech by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, which dismantled Washington's false arguments for maintaining its policy of aggression.
Minutes before the vote, the Ambassador stated that the topic was certainly familiar, as everyone had heard about this inhumane, cruel, illegal, and dishonest policy.
She reiterated the gratitude of Zimbabwe, its brothers and sisters in Africa, and the rest of the world.
She also expressed mixed feelings about the new victory, but also about the damage caused by the devastating Hurricane Melissa, which had just affected the entire eastern part of the Caribbean island.
I think that if we have survived the constant hurricane that the lockdown represents in our daily lives, we will also recover from this natural phenomenon.
