On this special July 26, the Danish-Cuban Association reaffirms its solidarity with Cuba and its belief that the Cuban people can and will win another victory in defense of the Revolution, socialism and self-determination.
The story of July 26, contains a symbolism that calls for struggle against oppression and for the right to social progress, freedom, solidarity and internationalism inside and outside Cuba.
Such was the case 68 years ago - on 26 July 1953 - when young Cubans led by Fidel Castro attacked the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba and the barracks of the Batista dictatorship in Bayamo. Thus began the last phase of Cuba's long struggle for freedom and self-determination.
And so it was exactly 30 years ago - on July 26, 1991 - when South Africa's freedom hero Nelson Mandela visited Cuba and in his speech expressed his people's thanks to Cuba with these words: “We have come here today recognizing our great debt to the Cuban people. What other country has such a history of selfless behavior as Cuba has shown for the people of Africa? How many countries benefit from Cuban healthcare professionals and educators? What country has ever needed help from Cuba and has not received it? ”
Today - July 26, 2021 - people in numerous countries are expressing their gratitude to Cuba by rejecting the new campaign of the United States and imperialism to fuel a revolt and create a system change in Cuba.
Cuba is hypocritically accused of violating human rights and democracy. But anyone who studies Cuban society without preconceived notions will recognize that Cuba better than most countries in the world secures its people the fundamental human rights - and if there was not a strong democracy in Cuba, the Cuban revolution would have long ago succumbed for the pressure and hostility to which the country has been subjected to for more than 60 years.
Cuba's current difficulties are exacerbated by the crisis and the corona, but are largely due to the US blockade, which for six decades has eroded Cuban society and cost billions and billions.
That is why we are saying this July 26 to the United States and to all those who, out of ignorance or malice, side with the United States: Stop the hypocrisy, stop the hostilities against Cuba, lift the blockade now!
And we reaffirm our willingness to fight the blockade until that happens.
We wish the Cubans a happy 26th of July!
