THAILAND, May 30, 2017. Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, the Seminar was attended by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Ministry, Mr. Panyarak Poolthup, the former President of Chile, Mr. Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle (special envoy of the President of Chile for Asia-Pacific), the Ambassadors of the 8 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean accredited in Thailand and more than 100 attendees of government institutions, companies, university students and representatives of the press.
As part of the country presentations, the Cuban Ambassador, Héctor Conde Almeida, denounced the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba and presented the trade and investment opportunities with the biggest of the Antilles in the framework of its process of updating the socio-economic model and the National Law of Foreign Investment in force, with special emphasis on the opportunities offered by the Mariel ZED. He discussed possible synergies in investments in countries of the region and the importance that Cuba attaches to value-added products resulting from scientific and technical applications and technological innovation - such as biotechnology products. Severel documents were made available to participants in different languages like Law no. 118, the legal framework for investment in the Mariel ZED, the investor guide and the list of export products from Cuba.
It is the first time that this type of meetings has a regional focus, which was recognized as an advantage compared to previous bilateral meetings. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba Thailand)
