Declaration approved at the Nordic Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba 2023, held in Oslo, Norway

Cuba is not a sponsor of terrorism!

On January 11, 2021, the Trump administration accused Cuba of “repeatedly providing support for acts of international terrorism in granting safe harbor to terrorists”. This false accusation was weaponized against Cuba because of Cuba’s role in facilitating the internationally recognized Colombian peace accords.

This accusation is absolutely false, something that is recognized also by all serious political circles in the US.

Cuba is a victim of terrorism, not a perpetrator. Cuba has seen its athletes blown up in a terrorist act against a civilian airplane. The organizers of this despicable act were protected their entire lives in the US. Cuba has seen bombs placed in hotels and bars in Havanna. Cuba has experienced the murder of its diplomats, attacks on its Embassy in Washington etc. These are just a few examples of state sponsored terrorism against Cuba.

The worst act of terrorism is the more than 60 years of an inhumane blockade committed by the USA - condemned by the General Assembly of the United Nations, almost unanimously every year for 30 years. The objective of the embargo is to starve the Cuban people into submission to the USA. The blockade affects not only Cuba, but also restrains other countries in the world from having normal relations to Cuba. It is a crime against all Cubans, and it is a crime against humanity.

The blockade should be lifted immediately!

Cuba should be removed from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism at once!
