Girón is today and forever!
As long as there is a woman or a man willing to give their life for the Revolution, we shall be victorious!
Cuba is living under the permanent siege of the United States government, whose escalation of threats has intensified in recent months. To the brutal energy stranglehold, which worsens the genocidal blockade policy of the past six decades, are added statements from representatives of the U.S. governmental elite about intentions of military aggression.
The material and human cost of that blockade is a disgrace borne by the government of the greatest empire of all time. It is an illegal and inhumane act, a violation of international law, condemned each year by nearly all member states of the United Nations, and, as recent surveys confirm, rejected by the majority of the sons and daughters of Lincoln’s homeland.
In the face of this collective punishment, the Cuban people offer the noblest and most admirable examples of resistance. Since January 29, when suffocation was decreed in the form of an Executive Order, the response of this people has been even more stoic, continuing to confront the challenges of shortages in every task and daily activity.
Amid such urgencies, a web of slander also arises to discredit Cuba and its government. From the prevailing media machinery, a disloyal war is waged against us, filled with exaggerations, lies, and disparagements, which never point to the true cause of the situation created and instead blame the Revolutionary Government for the crisis deliberately and coldly provoked by those who attack us. Pretexts as mendacious as claiming our country constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to U.S. national security, or designating us as a State that supposedly sponsors terrorism, are employed.
Thus is revealed the hypocrisy of the executioner, whose intentions are described in the memorandum of Deputy Secretary of State Lester Mallory, as early as April 6, 1960, when in very clear terms he expressed the true meaning of his criminal policy:
“…to employ all possible means quickly to weaken Cuba’s economic life. (…) A line of action which, being as skillful and discreet as possible, achieves the greatest progress in depriving Cuba of money and supplies, to reduce its financial resources and real wages, provoke hunger, desperation, and the overthrow of the Government.”
This harassment has also extended to Cuba’s bilateral relations with other countries. The United States exerts constant pressure on governments in the region, not only to break diplomatic ties with the Island, but also to abandon their own peoples, expelling health professionals who for years have been a source of hope for the poorest.
Isolation is also part of their strategy; however, in the world there are pillars of dignity, peoples and governments that do not bow down. There are the examples of Mexico, Russia, China, Vietnam, and other brotherly nations. There are the members of the Nuestra América Convoy, who, defying threats, pressures, and risks, in a symbolic gesture decided to deliver to us, beyond material aid, their support; reaffirming Martí’s maxim that “whoever rises today with Cuba rises for all time.”
Heirs of a historic legacy, with mambí and rebellious blood in our veins, honoring the example and courage of the heroes and martyrs of the Homeland; like the 32 brave Cuban fighters fallen in Venezuela and the young people who thwarted the terrorist infiltration through Villa Clara, we affirm today that Cuba will never be a trophy, nor another star in the U.S. constellation.
We are a nation with a great history and convictions to defend; of peaceful, supportive men and women; a people who each day, through their work, vindicate Cuba; and who, as on the sands of Playa Girón 65 years ago, under the cry of “Homeland or Death!”, will achieve victory in defense of sovereignty and socialism.
In the year of the centenary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, architect of the first great defeat of Yankee imperialism in the Americas; with the privilege that Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, firm alongside his people, continues with his foot in the stirrup; we ratify the call for national and international mobilization made this April 16 by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and we reaffirm his words:
“As long as there is a woman or a man willing to give their life for the Revolution, we shall be victorious!
The socialist character of our Revolution is not a phrase of the past, it is the shield of the present and the guarantee of the future!
Girón is today and forever!”
Girón is today and forever!
