A delegation from Norway attends International Seminar for Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases, in Guantánamo

Oslo, May 6, 2024. After having participating in Havana at the International Meeting in Solidarity with Cuba and against Imperialism, Ingrid M. Schanche, leader of "Norway For Peace"; Ahmed S. Al-Saedi, member of the International Committee of the Red Party, and Paulius Eidukas, member of the Communist Party of Norway and the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association, traveled to the province of Guantánamo, to take part at the VIII International Seminar for Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases.

The Seminar, which took place on May 4 and 5, conveyed by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People (ICAP) and the World Council for Peace (CMP), had around 80 participants from 30 countries, who had their working session in the halls of the Mariana Grajales Coello Revolution Square.

On the final day, the participants moved to the municipality of Caimanera, where, in a popular event held a few meters from the illegal US naval base located in that territory, the Seminar´s Final Declaration was read by Sara Román Palmezano, member of the Committee of Friends of Cali, in Colombia.

The text advocates for a peaceful world and social justice. It endorsed the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace and the commitment of the pacifists gathered at the Seminar to denounce the aggressive and interventionist policies of the current White House government and its allies.

They also demanded the closure of foreign military bases and facilities of the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) around the world and to continue demanding the return of the territory illegally occupied by the US naval base in Guantánamo. (Embassy of Cuba in Norway)
