Delegation of traditional leaders visits the Embassy of Cuba

The Ambassador of Cuba to Ghana, Pedro Luis Despaigne González, received a representation of traditional leaders headed by the Odeneho Dr. Affram Brempong III, Omanhene of the Suma traditional area at the headquarters of the Embassy of Cuba.

The Ambassador in his welcome remarks highlighted the historical links between Cuba and the group of peoples integrated today in the Republic of Ghana, initiated during the dark period of forced trafficking of people from Africa. He analyzed the African contribution to the formation of the Cuban nation, and the new stage of ties with the continent initiated after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. He also emphasized how in the year just ended Cuba was visited by President Nana Akufo -Addo and Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Omanhene, an expert in traditional leadership and conflict resolution, during his speech made reference to the ancestral migration process that originated the Kingdom he leads, in the current Bono region, and which also included territories of the current Côte d'Ivoire He presented with historical character the negative effects of the colonial distribution for the African peoples, and said that the traditional leaders should play a fundamental role in the struggle for national development.

During the interview, the Omanhene praised Cuba's collaborative work with Ghana, and the continent, in sectors such as Health and Education. The Ambassador reiterated the will of the government and the Cuban people to continue contributing to Africa, and noted that last year a group of 200 Ghanaians traveled to Cuba to pursue different modalities of medical studies. He also reported that in August 2019, 219 new doctors arrived in Ghana, after completing seven years of studies in the Greater Antilles.

Dr. Affram Brempong III reported that at the beginning of April 2020, his traditional area will host a Summit of traditional leaders, in which they will exchange experiences of traditional authorities in Ghana and several countries in the region, among which he highlighted South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Togo and Benin.

The Omanhene´s delegation included the Queen Mothers Mrs. Nana Ogyeko Adubea Ackom I and Mrs. Nana Awo Kosi Otieno, the Cultural Advisor of the Suma traditional area, Mr. Anahe Aeyei, and the tour operator, Mr. Stephen Tettey. The First Secretary of the Embassy, Julio César Sánchez, also participated in the meeting.
