Nigeria, October 7, 2021.- A broad representation of the Nigerian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba met at the headquarters of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Abuja, to participate virtually in the VII Conference of the African Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).
Together with the Cuban ambassador in this country, Clara M. Pulido Escandell and other officials of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, represented the solidarity movement, Abiodun Aremu, Coordinator of the Platform for Solidarity with Cuba, Ismail Bello and Chris Uyok, Vice Secretaries General of the Nigerian Labor Congress, along with other prominent members of the movement, including comrades Tar Ukoh (Mambissa) Medal of Friendship and Owei Lakemfa, journalist and researcher, closely linked to the country's trade union movement.
During the meeting, where representatives of all movements from African countries that were friends of Cuba participated, Comrade Abiodun Aremu, representing the Nigerian Movement, pointed out that the relationship between Nigeria and Cuba is symbiotic and deeply rooted in a shared historical and cultural heritage. "It is not possible to talk about Cuba and the Cuban without referring to the tremendous influence of African cultures, especially Nigerian, hence Nigeria will not remain indifferent to the United States' blockade of the Island," he said while reiterating his commitment that Cuba will never be alone.
In September 2019, the VI Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba had been held in Nigeria, where a series of agreements had been concluded to support Cuba and which were ratified again, among which the most outstanding are promoting the thought and legacy of the Commander. in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, expand the solidarity movement in various sectors of African societies, strengthen and increase the relationship between political forces, unions, youth organizations, women's organizations and friendship associations with Cuba, address the people and the Congress of the The United States with requests to end the illegal and inhuman blockade against Cuba, the Helms Burton Act, the activation of its Title III and the illegal occupation of the Yankee military base in Guantánamo, among others.
A moment of deep consternation was when the Movement recalled comrades AbdulKareem Aka-Motajo, president of the Nigeria-Cuba Cultural and Friendship Association, and Cuban Ambassador Carlos Trejo Sosa, former head of the Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, who died in May 2020 and September 2021, respectively.
