The new Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AU), Ambassador Kwesi Quartey, visited the Embassy of Cuba in Accra, where he was received by the Ambassador, Pedro Luis González Despaigne, who congratulated him on his election in office during the 28th AU Summit, held in January 2017 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
During the fraternal meeting, the Cuban Ambassador thanked the common position of African leaders against the economic blockade suffered by the Cuban people for more than fifty five years and which was ratified through the 8th Resolution on the matter adopted at that Summit.
Mr. Kwesi Quartey expressed the gratitude of the AU with Cuba, emphasizing that this Caribbean country - since 1959 - has been expression of solidarity and support with the African peoples. He also expressed the interest of his organization by strengthening ties with Cuba, and between Africa and CARICOM.
The First Secretary of the Embassy of Cuba, Julio César Sánchez Martínez also attended the meeting.
