Deputy Director General of UNESCO receives Ambassador of Cuba

Paris, 22 May. The Deputy Director General of UNESCO, Mr. Xing Qu welcomed the Cuban ambassador to the Organization, Maria del Carmen Herrera Caseiro, in the framework of a cordial meeting in which both discussed at length the links between Cuba and the Organization.

In this context, they both agreed on the excellent progress of bilateral relations, and on their strengthening over time, especially since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, as explained by the representative of Cuba, given the strong coincidence of the Programme of social transformations promoted by the Revolution with the values ​​and principles promoted by UNESCO.

Likewise, the two officials highlighted the common positions of Cuba and UNESCO in favor of peace, multilateralism, dialogue, cooperation and the promotion of sustainable development.

The Cuban diplomat took the opportunity to thank the senior official for UNESCO's support in the battle against the blockade, and elaborated on the damage caused to the Cuban people by the application of this policy, aggravated after the inclusion of Cuba in the unilateral list of countries supposedly sponsoring terrorism. Her counterpart acknowledged being aware of the difficulties and challenges that Cuba faced as a result of the blockade, and conveyed his admiration for the country's progress despite these obstacles.

On the other hand, they spoke extensively about the organization's regulatory work, focusing on issues related to artificial intelligence and neuro technology. At the same time, both exchanged about the work and importance of the UNESCO Regional Office in Havana, which they described as historic.
