Namibia, September 20th, 2019- The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia, H.E. Christine //Hoebes heads the Namibian delegation that will participate in the VI African Continental Conference of Solidarity with Cuba. The regional meeting will be held in Abuja, Nigeria, from September 23rd to 25th.
The Cuban ambassador, Sidenio Acosta, attended the Hosea Kutako International Airport, to farewell the Deputy Minister. The diplomat of the Island thanked the leader for attending the solidarity event. Likewise, he updated the Namibian representative on the latest measures taken by the United States government to intensify its economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.
For his part, the Deputy Minister //Hoebes highlighted the excellent state of bilateral relations between the two countries. She also expressed that she is honored for representing her country in this relevant event.
Both agreed on the importance of international solidarity with Cuba and the condemnation of the US blockade. They recalled the successful V Meeting of Solidarity, held in Namibia in June 2017; where about 300 delegates from 26 countries participated.
The Ambassador and the Deputy Minister recalled the participation of President Hage Geingob, Namibian historical leaders Sam Nujoma and Hifikepunye Pohamba and the late Namibian hero Andimba Toivo and Toivo, whowas founder and Patron, until his death, of the Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association.
In addition to Namibia and Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Luanda and Ethiopia also hosted the African continental solidarity meetings with Cuba in the years 1995, 1997, 2010 and 2012, respectively. In all of them the historical support of the Cuban Revolution to the African countries was recognized and the blockade and US aggressions against Cuba were condemned.
