BANGKOK, May 18, 2017.- The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Ambassador Panyarak Poolthup, and the Director General of the Department of America and South Pacific Affairs of the said Ministry, Ambassador Nantana Sivakua, welcomed the Cuban Ambassador to Thailand, Héctor Conde Almeida.
In the cordial meetings in the headquarters of this Ministry the good state of the bilateral relations between both countries was ratified and mutual willingness for their strengthening was reiterated. Both sides stressed the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, to be held in 2018.
The Cuban Ambassador thanked Thailand for its vote in favor of the resolution adopted last October by the UN General Assembly, which called for the cessation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.
The meetings highlighted the good results of the inter-ministerial meeting, held in Havana in April 2016, as well as the progress and potential of bilateral cooperation in the fields of biotechnological applications, tourism, health, culture, education and sports.
