Namibia, November 29th, 2020 - Namibia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Hon. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, expressed her solidarity with Cuba and stated the wish that "with the changes that have taken place in the United States, the path to normalization of relations between the two countries be resumed." She also highlighted the rapprochement between the two countries, under the leadership of Army General Raúl Castro and former US President Barack Obama.
The Namibian leader made these statements in the framework of one of her biannual briefings with the Diplomatic Corps accredited in this African country. Likewise, she expressed her government's support for the causes of the Palestinian and Sahrawi peoples.
The also Vice President of SWAPO, the ruling party, updated those present on the national news. She highlighted Namibia's efforts to control Covid-19 and thanked the solidarity of the countries represented at the meeting.
The second secretary of this Embassy, Aldo Fuentes, who was present at the meeting, had the opportunity to publicly thank Minister Nandi-Ndaitwah for her words, solidarity and continued support for Cuba.
Namibia and Cuba share close and historical ties of friendship, begun in the 60s of the 20th century, when the struggle for the liberation of this nation and consolidated since its independence in 1990. During these 30 years of official bilateral relations, Namibia has condemned on different occasions, in numerous international forums, the US blockade against Cuba.
