Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, S.E. Wissanu Krea-ngam, welcomes Cuban Ambassador to Thailand

The Ambassador of Cuba to Thailand, Mr. Héctor Conde Almeida, was welcomed on a courtesy visit by H.E. Wissanu Krea-ngam, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister, who ratified the Kingdom's support for the United Nations Resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba.

In the cordial meeting, the good path of bilateral relations was confirmed, and the mutual will to continue strengthening them was reiterated, with special reference to the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, to be held in May 2018. Reference was made to the ongoing actions and the development potential of bilateral cooperation in the fields of biotechnological applications, science, technology and environment, tourism, health, culture, education and sports; as well as the establishment of direct channels for trade. It was also reaffirmed the importance of maintaining cooperation in the various multilateral forums, including the one related to the Paris Agreement for tackling climate change.

Mr. Wissanu expressed interest in the process of updating the socio-economic model of our country and the Cuban Ambassador conveyed congratulations to the enactment on 6/4/2017 of Magna Carta no. 20, since the end of the Absolute Monarchy and the establishment of the Constitutional Monarchy in 1932.

Mr. Wissanu was previously Deputy Prime Minister, in the period 2002-2006, under the government of Thaksin Shinawatra. After the coup of 2014, he was responsible for the drafting of the Interim Constitution that governed until 6/4/2017. It has played a key role in shaping Thai legislation. In his current second term as Vice Prime Minister maintains high responsibility in drafting the organic laws for the implementation of the new Constitution, ahead of the general elections scheduled for the end of 2018.
