Suva, March 31, 2016.- In a meeting to welcome the Ambassador of Cuba, Mario Alzugaray, the Deputy Secretary of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Andy Fong Toy, expressed satisfaction with the cooperation that Cuba has offered to the countries of the region and confirmed its willingness to further promote links between the Caribbean country and the organization she represents.
During the meeting, Fong Toy briefed the Cuban diplomat on the evolution of the Organization and the main challenges facing the Pacific region. Both sides took advantage of this occasion to review the agenda of the 47th session of the Forum, to be held in September in the Federated States of Micronesia. According to its Dialogue Partner status, adopted at the 45 session carried out in 2014, Cuba once again will attend this event, which will serve to enhance its ties with the region.
Both sides also exchanged on the possibilities offered by the development of Cuban biotechnology industry, in order to treat diseases of high impact in the Pacific islands, highlighting the potential of using Heberprot-P, a medication for the treatment of diabetic disease, very effective in the prevention of amputations.
