“Under any circumstances”, declared Right Honourable Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare, Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia, to the Cuban President, “we will stand by Cuba’s side”.
A fraternal meeting took place this Monday afternoon at Havana’s Convention Center, when—in the context of the 1st International Colloquium “Fidel: Legacy and Future”—the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received Right Honourable Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare, Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia.
The President considered the visit to the Island of “the delegation from our beloved Namibia” to be “very significant”; and then extended fraternal greetings to the President of Namibia, Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Naitwah. And speaking of friendship, he made it clear that the president has a standing invitation to visit Cuba whenever possible.
In a conversation that also included the Political Bureau member and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, as well as the member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and head of the Department of International Relations, Emilio Lozada García, President Díaz-Canel thanked Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare for the constant statements made by representatives of the African nation in international forums in support of Cuba and against the imperial blockade imposed on the island.
For his part, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia conveyed fraternal greetings to the dignitary from President Netumbo Nandi-Naitwah, who, the friend said, has a visit to the Caribbean country on her agenda.
“We feel your pain”, expressed Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare, alluding to the current challenges facing Cuba. “The Namibian people”, he emphasized, “feel that pain”. He then added with emotion:
“We cannot forget when Cuba stood by us, and back then it wasn’t fashionable to do so”. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia recalled that Cuba lost more than two thousand of its sons in the battles for the independence of its sister nations on the mother continent.
