Islamabad, 2 June 2026. Syedah Marriyah Ali, the newly appointed Director for Canada and Latin America within the Division of the Americas, received the Cuban Ambassador, Damián Cordero, at her office in the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.
Her Deputy Director, Aaliya Hassan, accompanied the diplomat, whom the Cuban Ambassador congratulated on her appointment to the post, and the two held a productive meeting, for which the Cuban Ambassador expressed his gratitude.
During the discussion, the Cuban ambassador updated the officials on the difficult situation facing the Cuban people and his government’s decision to denounce, at the United Nations, the aggressiveness of the US blockade, the false media narrative against Cuba and the threat of military action by the US government. The Cuban diplomat provided data confirming these actions and handed over the text of the statement made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parilla, during the recent press conference held for the national and foreign press accredited in Cuba.
During the meeting, issues relating to the Sixth Round of Political Consultations between the two countries, which took place in April 2025 in Havana, were also discussed, particularly matters concerning education and the increase in scholarships for Pakistani students to study medicine and other specialists in Cuba.
