Oslo, November 22, 2023. When COP 28 -United Nations Conference on Climate Change - is about to start in a few days in Dubai, the exhibition of the documentary "Cuba's Life Task, Combating Climate Change" took place in one of the rooms of the Deichman Bjørvika library in this city, organized by the Norway-Cuba Friendship Association.
The film, directed, edited and produced by Daniesky Acosta and co-produced by Helen Yaffe, a professor at the University of Glasgow, shows how Cuba uses environmental science, natural solutions and community participation in the implementation of the Life Task, a State Plan approved in 2017 to confront climate change.
The Cuban ambassador to Norway, Maité Rivero Torres, thanked the Friendship Association for the initiative. She highlighted that it was a way of paying tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of his physical disappearance to be commemorated on November 25th.
Fidel, in his speech at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, on June 12, 1992, clearly described the risks and challenges to be faced by humanity due to climate change. His statement indicating that “an important biological species is at risk of disappearing due to the rapid and progressive elimination of its natural habitat: humankind”, went down in history.
The diplomat pointed out that Cuban State Plan to confront climate change - knows as Life Task - is inspired by Fidel´s thoughts. (EmbaCuba Norway)
