Donation of Oncology Medicines and Medical Supplies from The Bahamas Arrives in Cuba

Nassau, The Bahamas. — Today, the Government of The Bahamas delivered a second shipment of medicines to Cuba as part of a donation intended for the National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology (INOR), to support the care of cancer patients. This contribution comes amid the extreme intensification of the blockade imposed on Cuba by the Government of the United States, including the implementation of an energy blockade and secondary sanctions that impose collective punishment on the Cuban people and cause significant damage to the country’s healthcare system. The shipment complements the first consignment delivered in August.

The donation was transported to Cuba on a charter flight led by Ambassador Jerusa Ali, Director General of the Bahamian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who will oversee the delivery.

The same flight also carried another shipment of medicines and medical supplies collected through the “242 + 53: Solidarity That Unites Us” campaign, launched by the Embassy of Cuba in Nassau.

Members of the group of Ghanaian graduates of Cuban universities residing in The Bahamas, Bahamian businesspeople, friends of Cuba, and Cuban residents in the country joined this initiative. Their contributions complement the donation from the Bahamian Government and reflect the solidarity of the Bahamian people with the Cuban people as they face the difficult challenges confronting the country.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Government and people of The Bahamas, as well as to all the individuals and institutions that took part in the campaign.

This gesture once again demonstrates that solidarity cannot be blockaded and that relations between these sister Caribbean nations continue to be underpinned by the deep bonds of cooperation that have always characterized them.
