Drug regulatory authorities of Cuba and Turkey sign cooperation agreement.

Ankara, September 12, 2019. The General Director of the Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices of Cuba (CECMED), Dr. Rafael Pérez Cristía, and the President of the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TITCK) Dr. Hakkı Gürsöz, signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the two entities, a ceremonial act held at the headquarters of the Turkish institution.

The Vice President of the BioCubaFarma Business Group, Dr. Mayda Mauri Pérez; the Cuban ambassador, Luis A. Amorós Núñez; Representatives of the Turkish Ministry of Health, executives of the Council for Foreign Economic Relations of Turkey (DEIK) and a large group of Turkish companies interested in cooperating with Cuba in the field of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries were present at the signing of the agreement.

The top executives of the two regulatory bodies agreed that this agreement will give impetus to joint development projects of innovative medicines of Cuban biotechnology, their production in Turkish territory, the commercialization of novel Cuban products in Turkey and other bilateral actions for the expansion of economic and commercial cooperation in biopharmaceutical matters. Dr. Pérez Cristía and Dr. Mauri Pérez detailed elements on the great progress of the Cuban biotechnology sector.

Both representatives, together with the Ambassador, held the previous day a meeting at the Turkish Foreign Ministry with its Director General for the Americas, Inan Ozyildiz, to whom they explained the Cuban achievements and their scope despite the damages of the US blockade. Cuban executives make a work visit to the Eurasian country to expand cooperation and business in the biopharmaceutical sector between the two countries.
