East Timor Prime Minister receives Cuban 1st Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs

EAST TIMOR, October 11th, 2018.- Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of East Timor, Taur Matan Ruak, received this afternoon Cuban 1st Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marcelino Medina González, who carries out a brad work program as part of his visit to this nation.

During the meeting, both parties acknowledged the great importance they attach to bilateral relations, characterized by friendship and cooperation, as well as their satisfaction for the consolidation of the political dialogue between both nations and the development of cooperation linkages especially in terms of education and health.

The Cuban deputy foreign minister conveyed the appreciation of the Cuban people and government for the traditional support by East Timor to the Cuban resolution against the blockade imposed by the United States and the firm stance taken by this nation’s authorities against that policy in several multilateral fora.

Cuba maintains in East Timor the largest brigade of health care professionals in the Asia and Oceania region. Until December 2017, 934 physicians had graduated as a result of the cooperation programs between both countries. (Cubaminrex)
