Egyptian Foreign Minister and Cuban Ambassador to UNESCO hold cordial meeting

Paris, 3 October 2025. – In a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, and the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Cuba to UNESCO, María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro.

The meeting, which took place at the premises of the Egyptian Embassy in this city, allowed both parties to exchange views on the historical ties between the two countries, recalling in particular the close relationship between the Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, and the Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, united by their vocation for social justice. In this context, they agreed on the importance of strengthening relations between Cuba and Egypt in both the political and economic spheres.

For his part, the senior Egyptian official recalled the traditional common positions historically defended by Egypt and Cuba in multilateral forums, as well as the activism of both countries within the Non-Aligned Movement. They concurred on the need to continue working together in defence of multilateralism and the democratization of the United Nations, in particular the Security Council.

At the same time, they discussed the challenges currently facing UNESCO, which would represent a major task for his country’s candidate for the post of Director-General of the Organization, should he be elected. He expressed his appreciation for Cuba’s support. In this context, both sides advocated strengthening coordination within UNESCO.
