Cairo, October 18, 2026. Several Egyptian newspapers echoed the condemnation by Party Political Bureau member and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, via the social media platform X, regarding the “repeated lies and new actions” by the U.S. State Department, through which it “attempts to silence the act of collective punishment it is committing against the Cuban people and to make the rest of the international community an accomplice to this barbarity.”
The articles highlighted the Cuban Foreign Minister’s remarks: “The U.S. Secretary of State, nervous and anxious in the face of yet another defeat at the United Nations, is pressuring and blackmailing heads of state and government from various countries to change their vote against the embargo at the UN General Assembly.”
They also referred to statements made by Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío on social media, in which he said: “It is not enough for the world’s greatest economic, technological, and military power to impose collective punishment on the entire Cuban people and to lower the standard of living and living conditions of the entire population with the aim of inducing a humanitarian crisis.”
“Faced with the political and moral isolation resulting from this genocidal aggression, it is devoting substantial resources to pressuring governments around the world to change their traditional stance calling for an end to the abuse and crime,” Fernández de Cossío denounced.
He added that “the goal, in a year marked by the intensification of the economic war, is to blame the victim, discredit the victim, and thereby attempt to change a position that the international community has historically and unequivocally maintained in rejecting the economic blockade.”
The White House’s pressure and threats against third countries come just days before the report titled “The Need to End the Economic, Commercial, and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America Against Cuba” is once again presented at the UN General Assembly, a report that has historically received majority support from members in that forum.
