Egyptian Tagammu Party Chairman discusses with Cuban Ambassador on strengthening bilateral relations and regional situation

Cairo, June 11, 2025. The Chairman of the National Unionist Progressive Party (Tagammu) and Senator of the Republic, Sayed Abdel Aal, received the Cuban Ambassador to Egypt, Alexander Pellicer Moraga, at the party's headquarters. Important bilateral and regional issues were discussed at the meeting.

During the meeting, Abdel Aal highlighted the deep and historic ties between the Tagammu Party and Cuba, noting that these ties have their roots in the historic friendship between the late founder Khaled Mohieddin and the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro, especially given Khaled Mohieddin's position as Vice Chairman of the World Peace Council.

For his part, the Cuban ambassador expressed his pride in the deep relationship he shares with the party, recalling that he served as the second in Mission of the Cuban Embassy in Cairo from 2012 to 2016, during which time he met on several occasions with Dr. Refaat El-Saeed, the party's former chairman, and MP Sayed Abdel Aal.

For his part, the head of the group praised the important role played by the Cuban embassy in organizing meetings with ambassadors of Latin American countries after the June 30, 2013 revolution, which helped clarify the real situation in Egypt at the time.

The meeting addressed developments in Egypt, particularly in view of the approaching parliamentary elections to be held this year. Abdel Aal affirmed that the party is preparing for the upcoming elections with qualified youth cadres.

The two sides discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian issue, and the group's leader emphasized the right of the Palestinian people to confront the Israeli occupation and what he described as a "war of extermination" that has claimed the lives of thousands of civilians, most of them children and women.

For his part, the Cuban ambassador stressed the importance of relations with Egypt, expressing his country's aspiration to enhance cooperation, particularly in the areas of health and the pharmaceutical industry, describing relations between the two countries as a "model of cooperation between the countries of the South".

The ambassador concluded the meeting by thanking the Tagammu Party and its leaders for their statements of solidarity with Cuba in the midst of the blockade, emphasizing his country's commitment to continue developing bilateral relations with Egypt at all levels. (Embacuba Egipto)
