At El Sueño Existe Festival, the Cuban Ambassador Praises UK Solidarity and Calls for Action on Palestine

LONDON – 6th September 2025 – Ambassador Ismara Vargas Walter delivered a speech focused on the power of international solidarity during her participation at the El Sueño Existe festival in Machynlleth, Wales, on Saturday 6th September.

Her address took place during Session 2, entitled "The Power of Solidarity," where she shared the panel with Cuban resident Valía Rodríguez. The panel was also distinguished by the participation of British MP Steve Witherden, Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cuba.

In her speech, the Ambassador extended a special thank you to the Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC) for its decades of work in the United Kingdom. She commended the organisation for its patient efforts in "building bridges," bringing Cuban realities to classrooms and communities, and for transforming sympathy into sustained action through cultural events and humanitarian support.

She described solidarity not as an abstract idea, but as a guiding principle of the Cuban Revolution, deeply rooted in the country’s history. "Since the early days of the Cuban revolution, our people have believed that we are stronger when we act together," she affirmed. She highlighted the international medical missions and literacy brigades that have shared knowledge and compassion across the globe as examples.

A central moment of her speech was her strong call for solidarity with the Palestinian people. "Cuba stands firm with the Palestinian people in their struggle for dignity, security, and basic human rights," she declared, adding, "We condemn in the strongest terms any act that constitutes genocide or crimes against humanity."

Finally, recognising Wales' "proud tradition of internationalism," the Ambassador called for transforming sympathy into "practical partnerships" through concrete projects such as educational and cultural exchanges that would strengthen the enduring ties between the peoples of Cuba and the United Kingdom.
