On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1st, 2019, the Embassy of Cuba held a reception on December 20th attended by representatives of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, members of the diplomatic corps, the Cuban residents’ community in the country and Egyptian friends.
The President of the Cuba-Egypt Friendship Association, Kamal Gaballa, welcomed the new Ambassador and highlighted the historic relations existing between the two countries. He also highlighted the 50th anniversary of the Foundation of the Friendship Association he chairs and the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Cuba and Egypt, which will be held in September 2019.
For her part, in the opening speech, the Cuban Ambassador Tania Aguiar Fernández showed some of the greatest achievements during these 60 years of Revolution and its importance and impact for the Cubans and the friendly peoples who have accepted our solidarity.
The Ambassador stated: "The Cuban people will continue defending and claiming its right to the Revolution that made possible the enjoyment of civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights to every person in the country, despite the blockade of the United States, which continues to be the main obstacle to the development of Cuba and a flagrant violation of human rights."
Referring to the relations between the peoples of Cuba and Egypt, the Cuban Ambassador highlighted Fidel Castro’s thoughts, who once said: "No one is unaware of Egypt's historical role in the Arab culture and its development, or its merits as founder and head of the Non-Aligned Movement."
