Nigeria, January 11, 2022.- As part of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Nigeria and representing Cuba, the Counselor, Pavel Bauzá Fusté, Chargé d'Affaires a. i. of the Cuban Embassy, participated in the Ceremony for the Nigerian Armed Forces Day.

The celebration of Armed Forces Day dates back to 1919, when member states of the British Commonwealth used the day to mark the end of World War I and to honor the memory of those who died during the war. As Nigeria gained independence and republican status, the day was changed to honor veterans of the First and Second World Wars, as well as those of the Nigerian Civil War, in a solemn but grand manner. It was then called Armed Forces Remembrance Day and was celebrated on November 11 of each year. However, at the end of the Nigerian civil war in 1970, Nigeria decided to adopt January 15 to commemorate and honor its fallen armed forces and heroes.

The moment was propitious too to exchange with members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Abuja.
