The Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica hosts a special broadcast to mark the Day of Cuban Culture (+ Video)

Sunday 18 October in the evening, the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica hosted a special broadcast on its Facebook site, marking the Day of Cuban Culture.

Kingston, Jamaica, 19 October 2020. Sunday 18 October in the evening, the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica hosted a special broadcast on its Facebook site, marking the Day of Cuban Culture.

The 90-minute broadcast, subtitled in English, included a congratulatory message and a performance by Dr. L’Antoinette Staines, a famous Jamaican choreographer, artistic director of the L'Acadco company: A United Caribbean Dance Force; Damaris Hernández, President of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica recited Raúl Ferrer’s poem “Romance de la Niña Mala; and Silvio Rodríguez´s song "El Escaramujo", was sang by Ricardo and Ulises Calvo, both officials of the Embassy.

The broadcast also paid tributes to Alicia Alonso, Omara Portuondo, Alfredo Sosabravo and Juan Padrón, to whom the Day of Cuban Culture has been dedicated this year. At the end, the feature film Elpidio Valdés (1978), by Padrón, was played for everyone´s amusement, regardless of age or nationality.

During its premiere, the video had around 100 simultaneous viewers until the end. Since then, it has reached more than 5,300 people, it has been reproduced more than 1,600 times, and it has received more than 650 interactions, including reactions, comments and shares. In their comments, the public thanked the Embassy for the initiative, which they called “a gift from Cuba to enliven Sunday night.”
