Kingston, Jamaica, 21 August 2020. Yesterday, the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Jamaica joined other diplomatic delegations of Spanish-speaking nations to support the local immersion program for the training of future Spanish teachers in this Caribbean island.
The Foreign Language Curriculum for these trainee teachers include language immersion in a Spanish-speaking country and, for those who are unable to travel abroad, the alternative of local immersion. However, the spread of Covid-19 poses a new variant: virtual immersion.
Precisely as part of this process, on Thursday, August 20 in the morning, the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica was represented by Counsellor Ricardo Calvo Águila who, taking advantage of the benefits of the new information and telecommunications technologies, gave a motivational lecture entitled "An approach to Cuban Culture," then holding a live streamed exchange with students.
Educator Malbis Aranda Ruiz-Morris, President of the Academic Committee of Modern Languages at the Jamaica Training Schools for Teachers, thanked Cuba for the enthusiastic participation in the programme and commented on the favourable reception among the students, who expressed a strong desire to visit our country and expand their knowledge of the language, history and culture of the Largest Island in the Antilles.
