Embassy of Cuba in the Kingdom of Thailand Celebrate the Day of National Rebellion

The Embassy of Cuba in the Kingdom of Thailand held a simple activity at its headquarters, on the occasion of commemorating this July 26 the 70th anniversary of the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes military barracks in Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo, respectively.

This was an action carried out by a group of young Cubans, led by Fidel Castro, who would go down in history as the Centennial Generation, whose objective was to unleash the armed struggle against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958). Despite their display of courage and dignity, the assailants - inferior in number and weapons - could not take the fortress.

The feat ended in a military defeat; however, it had extraordinary significance for the Cuban people and for the national liberation movement that was beginning and that led to the triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959.

As Fidel expressed: "Moncada taught us to turn setbacks into victories."
