Embassy of Cuba in Nigeria commemorates Cuban Culture Day .

Abuja, October 20, 2023. - With a simple but profound act, the Cuban Embassy in Nigeria commemorated Cuban Culture Day.

With the presence of Mrs. Tolu Latunji, Director of Strategic Communication, representing the Minister of Culture; of Mr. Ibrahim Zanna, Director General of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; of the diplomatic corps accredited in Nigeria, of the Nigerian movement of solidarity with Cuba, of Cubans residing in the country, of friends of Cuba and of the diplomatic mission group, this solemn act took place.

Ambassador Miriam Morales Palmero reflected in her words of gratitude that this was a day in which we celebrated the selflessness, resistance and bravery of an entire people in their fight to achieve independence and that in turn was an act of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Cuban Culture Day is a national celebration that the people of Cuba celebrate every October 20 and in which the creation of the National Anthem of Cuba is commemorated, when on this day in 1868 its verses were sung for the first time in the Cuban territory.

During her speech, the ambassador pointed out the links between Cuban culture and the continent, since it includes the heritage bequeathed by the more than 3,000,000 slaves who came to the Island from different African countries, most of them from Nigeria. .

Cuba celebrates National Culture Day in the midst of the tightening of the blockade and a difficult national and international situation. For this reason and in solidarity with the suffering of the Palestinian people, the words of denunciation offered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez Parilla, were pronounced by Ana Flavia Gómez Pavot, Third Secretary of the Embassy, in total condemns Israeli actions against the Palestinian people.

During the event, the unconditional support of the Cuban people and government with Palestine was reflected, because as our historical leader, Fidel Castro, taught us, the essence of Cuban culture is in solidarity, humanism and the defence of just causes.
