Nigeria, July 13, 2022.- The Cuban ambassador to this country, Clara M. Pulido Escandell, signed the book of condolences for the death of Comrade José Eduardo dos Santos, former president and friend of Cuba, as announced by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, on July 8 in a message on social networks.
Dos Santos was born in Luanda on August 28, 1942, and ruled Angola between 1979 and 2017. He began his political life by integrating clandestine suburban groups in Luanda. At the age of 19, he left the country and began to coordinate, from abroad, the activity of the youth of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola. He studied engineering in the former USSR.
He visited Cuba on several occasions, and developed a close friendship with Fidel and Raúl, for whom he confessed to feel great admiration.
In addition, he worked to consolidate the bilateral ties forged as of November 15, 1975, mainly in the struggle for the independence of the African country, with which, at the end of the war in 1988, Cuba maintained a sustained and growing collaboration in sectors keys such as health, education and construction.
