Embassy of Cuba in Nigeria Pays Tribute to Internationalist Combatants Fallen in Venezuela

Abuja, January 5, 2026.— The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in the Federal Republic of Nigeria paid tribute today to the 32 Cubans who lost their lives on January 3rd as a result of the terrorist attack perpetrated by the Government of the United States against the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The ceremony, held at the Cuban diplomatic mission, was marked by a profound sense of solemnity, historical memory, and reaffirmation of the internationalist commitment that has characterized the Cuban Revolution since its very beginnings. The event provided a space for reflection and homage to those who gave their lives in defense of the principles of sovereignty, solidarity, and self-determination of peoples.   

The activity was presided over by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, and was attended by the Cuban staff of the diplomatic mission. Also present were the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Nigeria, Álvaro Guzmán, and Minister Counsellor Luis Ernesto Pineda, who expressed their respect and solidarity in honoring the sacrifice of the fallen heroes.

During the ceremony, a floral tribute was laid before the monument to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, located at the Cuban diplomatic headquarters, as a symbol of historical continuity, resistance, and fidelity to the ideals that have guided the struggle of Cuba and the brotherly peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The tribute reaffirmed Cuba’s unwavering internationalist vocation and its commitment to peace, justice, and solidarity among nations, as well as its firm condemnation of all forms of aggression and terrorism against sovereign peoples.
