Embassy of Cuba welcomes the High Commissioners of Pacific Island Countries

Wellington, 12 December 2025.– On Friday, 12 December, the Residence of the Embassy of Cuba hosted a cordial gathering with the High Commissioners of the Pacific Island countries accredited in New Zealand, in an atmosphere of friendship and constructive dialogue.

During the evening, the Ambassador of Cuba welcomed the guests and highlighted the honour for Cuba of serving as a Dialogue Partner of the Pacific Islands Forum, as well as the deep value his country attaches to its relations with the Pacific region, united by historical and cultural ties and a strong sense of community.

The Head of the Cuban Mission expressed special appreciation for the support extended by Pacific governments on 29 October at the United Nations, during the vote on the resolution entitled “Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Embargo Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba,” underscoring that such support reaffirms the existing bonds of friendship and solidarity.

He also referred to the challenges faced by Cuba as a result of the longstanding policy of economic pressure by the United States, while reiterating his country’s firm willingness to strengthen and expand cooperation with the Pacific Islands, guided by the principle of sharing in solidarity what one has, even under difficult circumstances.

The Ambassador of Chile, a country that also holds the status of Dialogue Partner of the Pacific Islands Forum, accompanied the Ambassador of Cuba in this tribute to his colleagues representing the Pacific. On this occasion, she reaffirmed the readiness and willingness of both countries to continue strengthening and expanding relations with the States of the region.

Within the framework of the gathering, guests enjoyed a sample of Cuban culture and cuisine, offered as a gesture of hospitality and appreciation toward the countries represented. Before concluding, the Ambassador extended his warmest wishes to those present on the occasion of the Christmas season, as well as a prosperous year 2026 for them and their families.
