For more than six decades, successive United States governments have unsuccessfully attempted to destroy the Cuban Revolution through a criminal and illegal economic, commercial, and financial blockade.
In recent years, Washington has escalated its economic war to unprecedented levels in an unbridled effort to destabilize the country. The Trump administration introduced additional unilateral coercive measures, including the arbitrary inclusion of Cuba on the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, with the aim of punishing the Cuban Revolution's peace efforts in Latin America and the world.
These measures intensify the blockade and cause profound suffering to the Cuban people, generating deprivations of all kinds.
A country like Cuba, which has managed to develop more than 13 vaccines and is among the few in the world to have produced COVID-19 vaccine candidates, has been forced, for example, to face severe shortages of essential medicines and supplies.
In addition to the already severe restrictive measures, a systematic disinformation campaign on social media has been deployed, aimed at discrediting Cuban medical cooperation around the world. Added to this is the enormous diplomatic pressure exerted on many countries to refrain from condemning this criminal policy within the framework of the United Nations.
The Swiss-Cuba Association, Geneva Section, strongly condemns this escalation of aggression by the US government.
On October 28 and 29, 2025, the UN General Assembly will again consider a resolution condemning the blockade. We urge all countries around the world to join in this condemnation, as an act of justice and recognition of the Cuban people, who resist with dignity and humanity.
From Geneva, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening the "Cuba without a blockade" campaign to reject these measures, denouncing the complicity of the pharmaceutical industry, the banking system, and the media, and taking citizen action to end this cruel policy.
