Amsterdam, May 1, 2026. Intellectuals, academics, and members of political parties and social movements gathered in the city center on Wednesday, April 29, and agreed to establish the Dutch chapter of the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity (REDH).
The emotional gathering was attended by Ambassador Eva Yelina Silva Walker and Dr. Enrique Alemán, a Cuban deputy and president of the Cabildo Quisicuaba Socio-Cultural Project Foundation.
The Caribbean diplomat highlighted the importance of having spaces such as the REDH for coordinating progressive efforts and initiatives, as well as for promoting critical thinking in the face of the imperialist, fascist, and colonialist ideology that seeks to impose itself to the detriment of the self-determination of peoples, the sovereign equality of states, and international peace and security.
Dr. Alemán highlighted the contributions and leadership of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, and of Commander Hugo Chávez Frías, the eternal Bolivarian leader, as well as those of other political figures and prominent intellectuals, artists, and academics, to the creation and development of the REDH. At the same time, he highlighted the value of this forum in the face of the challenges arising from the information war that misinforms and seeks to destroy human beings’ capacity to think.
Silva Walker urged unity in defense of just causes and highlighted the genocide being committed against the Cuban people, who suffer the devastating impact of the energy blockade imposed by the U.S. government, compounded by the cumulative effects of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade that has been in place against the island for more than six decades.
The Network of Intellectuals, Artists, and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity (REDH) constitutes a movement of thought and action against all forms of domination and exclusion.
