Esteban Lazo receives the president of the Lao People's Democratic Republic

Vientiane September 2023. The member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, received this Wednesday, at the National Capitol, Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Popular Party Lao revolutionary and president of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, who is visiting our country to participate in the Summit of the Group of 77 and China.

In the fraternal exchange, the head of the Cuban Parliament welcomed the distinguished visitor, on behalf of the deputies of the largest of the Antilles, and ratified that close ties have united both peoples since the establishment of diplomatic relations on December 4. November 1974. «Our collaboration has always been characterized by political trust, brotherhood and solidarity between our peoples, parties and governments. In 2024 we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of our ties," he highlighted.

Lazo Hernández commented that he has fond memories of his two visits to Laos, in 1996 and 2006, in which he was able to confirm "the affection that unites us, the mutual trust and the sincere feelings of brotherhood that have been strengthened throughout these years." years". In turn, on those occasions, he was able to admire “the working spirit of his people, as well as his achievements after many years of struggle and his progress towards an increasingly better future; "and I will always remember those moments that I actually felt like a great hug between our people."

In his speech, he also recalled his virtual exchange last year with Xaysomphone Phomvihane, member of the Political Bureau of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and president of the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, where they reiterated their mutual interest in strengthening ties. bilateral. He took advantage of this opportunity to send his Laotian counterpart a fraternal greeting and reiterate his invitation to receive him in Cuba.

«I want to reiterate the interest in promoting bilateral economic ties and expanding cooperation in the spheres of health, sports, education, agriculture, the pharmaceutical industry and biotechnology, through the implementation of the Economic Cooperation Agreement signed in November 2019. We are pleased that 133 Laotian students have already graduated in Cuba. Currently, 30 are studying the specialties of medicine, physical culture, engineering and Spanish language," said Esteban Lazo during the official conversations held in the Baraguá room.

On the other hand, he especially thanked Laos for its support in the fight for the immediate and unconditional elimination of the blockade imposed by the United States Government against Cuba, an unjust policy that constitutes the main obstacle to the development of our country. Subsequently, he delved into other aspects of current national affairs and the 10th Legislature of the supreme body of State power.

Regarding the Summit of the Group of 77 and China, based in Havana, he stated that the deputies to the National Assembly consider the holding of this relevant international event to be of utmost importance.
