Eswatini government thanks Cuba for sending doctors to fight COVID19

Pretoria, September 9, 2020.- The government of the Kingdom of Eswatini sent a message of gratitude to its Cuban counterpart, on behalf of His Majesty King Mswati III, the Queen Mother and the people and government of the Kingdom, for the valuable assistance given by the 19 doctors sent by the Island to assist in efforts against the COVID 19 pandemic.

Cuban doctors also assist that sister African nation in caring for other pre-existing diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus, which represent high risk factors for patients with COVID 19. In fact, statistics show that 35% of those killed by COVID-19 in Eswatini also suffered from diabetes.

In its message of gratitude, the Eswatini government highlights that Cuba's decision to respond positively to the request for assistance will drastically reduce the loss of life in the Kingdom as a result of the pandemic.

Likewise, the message emphasizes that the support provided by Cuba reaffirms the commitment of both parties to continue strengthening the special bilateral relations between the two nations, for the benefit of their respective peoples.

The 19 new Cuban health professionals who arrived in Eswatini on August 19, join another 19 doctors from the Cuban Medical Brigade who have been working for 15 years in that African Kingdom, under the Bilateral Agreements of Cooperation in the Health sphere, with wide recognition of its excellent work results by the population and the country's authorities.
