Friends of Cuba from various organisations with a long history of solidarity gathered to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada Barracks alongside embassy staff and Cuban residents.
Runa Evensen, leader of the Communist Party of Norway, which hosted the event, conveyed on behalf of the Party a fraternal and renewed message of solidarity and condemnation of US aggression against the Revolution and the people of Cuba.
For her part, Ane Hoel, president of Cubaforeningen i Norgen, speaking on behalf of the Friendship Association and representing other solidarity movements, reaffirmed the commitment of our Norwegian friends involved in various solidarity projects, including fundraising to donate solar panels to Cuban medical facilities. She issued a strong condemnation of the blockade and the complicit inaction of European governments.
It fell to Hilda Reyes, representing the Committee for a Dignified Chile, to convey this heartfelt message from friends in the Latin American community living in Norway, who express particular solidarity with the Cuban Revolution and its heroic people.
In his address, the Cuban ambassador emphasised that, in the face of growing aggression from the US government and the spread of hate speech, we have proudly witnessed the growth of an unstoppable wave of political and material solidarity, for which we express our deep gratitude.
The ambassador also referred to the mobilisation of all the Cuban nation’s resources to implement a wide-ranging programme of economic and social measures designed to help overcome the enormous obstacles imposed by the blockade. He added that these efforts are being undertaken with the same drive and faith in victory instilled in us by the Moncada rebels and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
To round off the celebrations, videos commemorating 26 July and the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution were screened.
