Exchanges are strengthened in the Cuba-Laos educational and sports sector.

 Vientiane, February 25, 2023. The president of the Lao National University, Dr. Oudom Phonekhampheng and the Dean Mr. Thongsouk Keomany, led and held a fruitful exchange at the Cuban Embassy in this capital, on which occasion they were accompanied by directors from the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, academics and other close friends.

The Cuban ambassador to the Lao PDR, Enna Viant Valdes, in this propitious setting, highlighted the historic ties of cooperation between Cuba and Laos as well as prospective actions aimed at strengthening them.

On her part, she thanked the welcome offered by the Lao side to the Cuban sports coach who provides his services in this sister country. Representatives of the collaboration in the educational sector were present.

Dr. Phonekhampheng offered an overview of the plans for the development of the Spanish language in the high university study center that he directs and the plans aimed at stimulating the study and improvement of that language. At another time, he showed interest in attending the university 2024 event that will take place in Havana next year.

Viant Valdes highlighted in the exchange the projection of Cuba as President protempore of the G-77+China in the present 2023, and the significant intervention of the Lao delegation that participated in the meeting of Ministers of Education organized in this framework. The moment was convenient to report on the situation in Cuba, in particular, the patriotic date of February 24, known in history as Grito de Baire, was underlined, and about the relevance of the parliamentary elections on March 26, with the decisive participation of the people in the election of their representatives in the new legislature.
