Jakarta, February 4- At the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry of this capital, the Director of the Department of Cooperation and Political Security of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Mr. Roy Rolliansyah, received the Ambassador of Cuba in Indonesia, Tania Velazquez Lopez.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged about the historical and positive relations that unite the Caribbean island, both with Indonesia and with the bloc of ten Southeast Asian countries that make up ASEAN.
The Indonesian official stressed that in the last 55 years, thanks to collective work, the ASEAN group has generated economic prosperity, social progress and regional peace, while highlighting the role played by Indonesia, this year in which it holds the pro tempore Presidency of the block so that the region remains supportive, manages to face the current challenges and generate more opportunities for the entire community. He also pointed out that the centrality of ASEAN is the main driving force, as part of the substantive dialogue and cooperation with external partners, and praised the achievements made by ASEAN in defending dialogue, economic integration, digitization and cooperation with external partners.
For her part, the Ambassador to Indonesia and to ASEAN, Tania Velázquez López, reiterated the gratitude of the Greater Antilles to ASEAN, which allowed Cuba to officially adhere to the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty on November 10, 2020 of the bloc, within the framework of its 37th Summit.
With this action, Cuba became the first Caribbean country and the fifth Latin American country to do so, which is a tribute to the island's historic ties with the ASEAN member states, as well as the will and confidence of its ten member states in the commitment of friendship and capacity for cooperation of the Greater Antilles with the Asian region.
