The Dr. Yemi Akimbamijo, Executive Director of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) visited the headquarters of the Cuban Embassy in Accra. He was received by the Chargé d'Affaires a.i., Julio César Sánchez Martínez. During the welcome, both highlighted the working relationship between the pan-African institution and the Cuban Diplomatic Mission.
The Dr. Akimbamijo was accompanied by a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture of the State of Jigawa in Nigeria, headed by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Gambo I. Aliyu.
During the meeting, visitors emphasized the Cuban internationalist contribution in the African continent, and Dr. Akimbamijo recalled how during the Ebola crisis, Cuba was the first country to send doctors to Guinee, Sierra Leone and Liberia. The need to strengthen cooperation in the field of agricultural research was a central theme.
The Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Cuban Embassy ratified the Cuban commitment to Africa, stressing the existence of roots in that continent and in particular with Nigeria. It was a meeting where the visitors showed appreciation for the work of Cuba in the continent and the interest to continue working for the benefit of the African and Cuban peoples.
