Paris, 18 June 2025. The exhibition “Transcultura: Integrating Cuba, the Caribbean and the European Union through Culture and Creativity” was inaugurated on 17 June at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, as part of the results of this renowned programme funded by the European Union and implemented by UNESCO’s Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Havana.
During the opening ceremony, Ms Anne Lemaistre, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Havana, underlined the transformative role of Transcultura, stating that “it has opened up opportunities for thousands of young Caribbean people, strengthening cultural identity and promoting regional cooperation.” For his part, Ernesto Ottone R., UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture, highlighted the tangible impact of the initiative, which has directly benefited creators and cultural managers from Cuba and 17 other Small Island Developing States in the Caribbean.
Transcultura has been implemented since 2020 and has strengthened the creation of networks and training spaces, benefiting more than 2,700 professionals in the sector, including many Cubans, reaffirming culture as a driver of sustainable development and a bridge for regional integration.
